Camp North Pole: Holiday Ice Skating at Camp North End

ice rink charlotte nc

It is recommended to book ice skating slots in advance, as many are expected to come to get into the holiday spirit at Birkdale on Ice. It costs $10 if you rent a skate and $8 if you bring your skates along. This is a massive indoor rink and is located just off of exit 64B of 1-485.

Camp North End

When you get cold, hit the center of the rink where the vintage airstream bar serves up hot chocolate, beer and snacks. ❄️ SkatesMost public outdoor skating rinks don’t allow outside skates. They all have skates that are available to rent and are already in the session fee. On the other hand, most indoor ice skating rinks encourage you to bring your own pair of ice skates. Check with the place you are going to beforehand to learn about their rules and regulations. This indoor rink is open year round and offers more than just ice skating.

What’s Special About Skating at Whitewater? Parent Review

Black culture has a lot of importance around skating rinks in general. And the fact that this one is coming back … typically when skating rinks close, they don't return. But also making public art that reflects the community and says, this is a space that is the community's — that's what I get to be a part of. Shortly after its closure in 2020, the city of Durham purchased it and announced plans to build a swimming pool.

Check the calendar at the Whitewater Center for pass activity hours to find the hours on the day you’d like to visit. Don’t forget that current weather conditions can change what is available so checking in on the status of activities the day of your visit is advisable. ❄️ Warmth/LayersEven though it isn’t uncommon for winter days to hit 70 degrees in North Carolina, there are plenty of cold days, especially at night!

Ice skating is now open at the Whitewater Center

With bright holiday lights lighting up the rink and the whole area around, this is great fun for the whole family! Santa himself provides ice skates and skate guides for beginner skaters. Ice skating is one of the best ways to get out and enjoy the chilly winter weather! For a state that doesn’t get much snow, it can be hard to find activities to do outdoors in the cold, and ice skating is the perfect one.

❄️ SocksAlmost all skate places require you to have socks in order to wear ice skates. So pack a couple of pairs of socks (in case one pair gets wet). I recommend bringing a pair of thicker socks as well in case you need to better fit the pair of skates. Birkdale Village is an all-in-one shopping area in Charlotte that has retail, places to eat and more. There’s also ice skating this year, with advance time slots available too. Yes, skates are included in the pass price and are required to be on the ice.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Time for hot cocoa and marshmallows, warm flannels, and spending time with the ones you love most. Are skate rentals included in the pass?

4705 Indian Trail-Fairview Road in Indian Trail. It is $12.00 per person to skate at Piedmont, and this includes skate rentals. In addition to ice skating, they offer a curling league and winter fun! It’s about an hour and a half drive from Charlotte.

Located just off of exit 64B of I-485, is where you will find this massive indoor rink. They are open all year and the public ice skating times vary each day. As we near the holiday season, the hours will extend.

General admission is $18.00 per person for a 75-minute skate session. For a place where the average high temperature is 62 degrees in November and 53 degrees in December, Charlotte sure does like outdoor ice skating. This year there are five places in the Charlotte region where you can ice skate outside. Three in Charlotte, one in Huntersville, and one in Rock Hill, South Carolina. After a round of ice skating all are invited to relax by the fire pit, sip a hot seasonal beverage, enjoy local eats, and find the perfect gift for loved ones. Dates are November 18, 2023, through January 28, 2024.

Every Fall, the Upper Pond of the whitewater system converts into a one-of-a-kind ice skating experience open to all ages and experience levels. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, this winter activity is sure to bring lots of fun to all. Here are 7 rinks in or near the Charlotte area. An Atlanta location opened in 2019 along the Eastside Beltline trail near Nina and Rafi, but closed temporarily two years later after a grease fire broke out in the kitchen. The restaurant has been undergoing a slow-progressing renovation since then and is expected to reopen by the end of 2023. From Torrence in the front to our waitress Shelby. They were very attentive and the food was delicious.

I would 100% recommend it and will 100% come back. I'm new to the area, and first time visiting this restaurant. There was a wait, but we'll worth it.My friend and I had Pad Thai, Spring Rolls, Shrimp Rolls, white wine, and 5-spice Old Fashioned. Both of us agreed, the best Pad Thai ever!!! The Shrimp Rolls were very good, the Spring Rolls- good. South End

CHARLOTTE  – Hawkers Asian Street Food plans to open its first two-story rooftop location within The Bowl at Ballantyne in early 2025. After spending countless hours and endless brews discussing the perfect spot for the first Hawkers location outside of Florida, we realized something very important – the Queen City would always reign supreme! Located in South End, one of Charlotte’s most historic neighborhoods, our first adventure outside of the Sunshine State has motivated us to keep pounding.

Hawkers Asian Street Food is now open at Ashford Lane in Dunwoody, the same complex as Brown Bag Seafood, Superica, and forthcoming food hall the Hall at Ashford Lane. The restaurant opens Monday, April 24, at 5 p.m. For dinner, with lunch beginning Tuesday, April 25.

Hawkers in Dunwoody also offers food and drink specials during happy hour each week and half-off bao from 3 p.m. The Pan-Asian concept plans to have dual bars within its 5,163-square-foot restaurant – one on the rooftop and another downstairs with views into the kitchen. The upstairs bar will be enclosed with garage doors to make it open-air optional while the rooftop dining and lounge space will be open-air with a partial canopy overhead. Guests can enjoy an upstairs karaoke space with screen doors for privacy and a sweeping view of The Amp Ballantyne and the campus’s parks and greenspaces. Hawkers joins locations of Paris Baguette, Hobnob, Sweetgreen, Brown Bag Seafood, Superica, Nawabi Hyderabad House, and Jeni’s Ice Creams already open at Ashford Lane. Omakase by Yun, Culinary Dropout, a second location of chef Pat Pascarella’s Neapolitan pizzeria and Italian restaurant Grana, and the food hall should all open in the coming months.

The first round of tenants at The Bowl will open this spring. The restaurant’s name was inspired by the street food vendors that co-founders Kaleb Harrell, Allen Lo, Wayne Yung and Kin Ho encountered during their travels across Southeast Asia. Famous for hollering at passers-by to hawk their small plates, these street vendors are revered for their generations-old recipes using local ingredients.

Guests can also expect variable, stylish lighting, an open kitchen, hanging flowers, arches, neon touches and posters. Founded in 2011 by Allen Lo, Kaleb Harrell, Wayne Yung, and Kin Ho, there are now multiple locations of Hawkers throughout Florida, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and Texas.

High Ridge Hours + Location

The menu features five different kinds of pasta including classic spaghetti and meatballs, a delightful tagliatelle vongole with plenty of clams and parsley, and a luscious bucatini al limoni. Tack on a chilled seafood salad and a crisp-cold martini for a standout evening. The menu is the same as other locations, with both pickup and curbside delivery available. The Pasta House Co. has long been known for its affordable pasta dishes (more than 20 at last count), its signature house salad, T-ravs, St. Louis–style pizza, and the “hot, cheesy garlic bread,” a customer favorite. However, you’ll need to make an exception for white truffle season, when the tagliatelle al tartufo bianco d’Alba is worth the surcharge for its funky, rarefied aroma and taste.

Corporate Team

Sometimes you’re not in the mood for any fussy interpretations of your simple Italian pasta dinner—you just want some red sauce (or “gravy,” hence the name here). From one of the red-checked tablecloths of this Inglewood joint, order the spaghetti and meatballs, served with half-pork, half-beef meatballs in a tomatoey sauce. Pasta is delicious, but it’s not always the most photogenic plate of food. Never fear, the red beet spaghetti here is going to get you all the likes on social media, served at this “pop-up lunch residency” inside the wine bar Mignon. To 3 p.m., but it’s worth changing your schedule around for the well-priced house-made pastas so delish you might need to go home for a nap after lunch. LA isn’t known for its red sauce spots, but the rebooted La Dolce Vita may change some minds.

The half-dozen or so varieties change with the season and the chef’s whims. The delicate rabbit-filled parcels (plin dell’ alta langa) are not to be missed, along with the classic pappardelle with beef cheek and veal tongue ragu. Snag a seat along the open kitchen for a front-row view of all the magic. While the pizzas and starters are done right, it’s the mother pastas like amatriciana, carbonara, and cacio e pepe that deserve diners’ full attention. Oh, and if you’re not into the food truck experience, there are brick-and-mortar joints on Pico and in Culver City. Danielle Duran-Zecca and her husband Alessandro Zecca opened Amiga Amore in Highland Park in 2023. The restaurant’s menu brings together Mexican and Italian flavors with an outstanding selection of original pasta dishes. The signature elote agnolotti is filled with corn and cotija cheese and finished with housemade Tajin and finger limes. The huitlacoche cacio pepe melds the Roman classic with earthy corn smut and a 63-degree egg.

Indian and Italian flavors mingle beautifully at this Indian sports bar decked out in neutral tones in the former Happy Foot/Sad Foot clinic in Silver Lake. Pasta offerings from Roberta’s alum, Miles Shorey, include rigatoni with coriander-spiked tomato masala and cream, and shells with nihari braised lamb, fennel, and sumac yogurt. Prior to the Kirkwood location, the most recent Pasta House restaurant opening was at 8831 Ladue Road in Ladue (the former Giovanni’s Kitchen space), in late 2020.

Our purpose has led The Pasta House Co. to become a beloved St. Louis tradition. This Pasadena spot offers a seasonal menu that’s Northern Italian by way of California fresh and local. So some fare is a tad lighter, like the eggplant lasagnette, but there are also bold layered flavors, like the Calabrese pork ragù torchetti, topped with a hunk of house ricotta and fried rosemary and peperoncini. That means dishes such as spaghetti rustichella with Dungeness crab, citrus, Calabrian chili, Thai basil and onion.

Pasta preparations include spaghetti topped with a generous dollop of burrata and golden slabs of Santa Barbara sea urchin, as well as linguini bathed in sweet corn carbonara. With CITY being in the Western Conference, they’ll be a lot of late matches." Our mission to create a family-friendly Italian restaurant set our standard in 1974 when we opened our doors and has remained a top priority ever since. Over the last 40 years, we’ve worked diligently to create a dining atmosphere that is focused on serving families. Through our daily specials like Kids Eat Free Sundays to happy hour, we strive to offer an affordable dining menu that offers a relaxed and welcoming experience to families.

With just three tables and a counter at this tiny Redondo Beach pasta spot, the emphasis is more on the food than the ambience (and the thriving takeout business, of course). You choose a sauce (yum, minty pesto) and the pasta you want with it (how about fusilli, so the ridges catch lots of tasty sauce?) and enjoy. You can also get the ingredients out of the deli case and prep at home, in case you want your family to think you spent hours on dinner. Sometimes there’s the underrated dish that the chef tells you to get, and you fall in love. Here, it’s the busiati, with black chickpeas from Altomonte,  mussels from PEI, minutina, tomatoes and white wine. Slow-simmered Bolognese is the order here, with hand-rolled tagliatelle and a bit of shaved Parm sharing space with pork, beef and a not-overpowering binder of tomato sauce.

We’re innovating crazy-creative iterations of traditional meals (e.g., the sauce is inside the pasta). (Can pasta from a food truck be any good? Um, see the line of hungry devotees.) Los Angeles is carbo-loading with next-level Italian food from the beach to the Valley, and here’s what to order. T’s soup inside pasta—tortellini en brodo—and it’s one of the signature dishes at this minimalist, glass-fronted restaurant in Silverlake. Chef Zach Pollack spent time working and eating in each of Italy’s 20 regions, and it shows in this menu, which ranges from small plates to large-format dishes and includes pastas served with crab and duck sausage. Making pasta fresh every day, this Santa Monica restaurant has a creative menu inspired by the fresh ingredients at the nearby farmers market.

What else would you order on the West Side except pasta with a taste of the sea? Don’t miss the mafaldine pasta (made in house) with Alaskan red king crab, miso, brown butter, mascarpone, lemon and parsley. Multiple-time James Beard Award–nominated chef Casey Lane has a novel concept at this restaurant inside the Kimpton hotel in West Hollywood. It’s a trattoria inspired by coastal Mediterranean cooking, including southern French and North African influences.

This Valley supper club is co-owned by a Grammy-winning sound engineer who has put as much effort into the perfect room acoustics (and upcoming live performances) as he has the menu. Which sounds terrific, starting with the pumpkin risotto with pork belly and honey-poached cranberries. The Pasta House Co. recently opened its 17th metro area location in the Greentree Center, at the corner of Manchester and Woodlawn Avenue in Kirkwood, in the former Pi Pizzeria + ¡Rico! The Pasta House Co. will make every effort to prevent cross contamination of gluten-free menu items however, we cannot guarantee that none has occurred.

For almost 20 years, this classic Italian restaurant has provided authentically prepared food in a fine-dining atmosphere to the city’s movers and shakers. The fruta di mare risotto (in its iteration shown here, tagliatelle) has cuttlefish, lobster, calamari, shrimp, mussels and clams, and is like a vacay on the Ligurian coast, except in a bowl. Cacio e pepe—that’s cheese and pepper—is the kind of simple Italian dish that’s easy to do…and so easy to do poorly. But this classic Italian fancy-night-out spot delivers the dish like a sophisticated version of mac ’n’ cheese, with house-made bavette pasta that’s like spaghetti but with a little curve to better hold all that cheese. Los Angeles is chock-full of great places for pasta, which is ironic considering its reputation as a carb-fearing town.

The 12 Best Gingerbread Kits of 2024, Tested & Reviewed

gingerbread house cookie jar

The holiday season is filled with baking and eating tasty desserts, and one of the most fun ways to get in the festive spirit is by building and decorating a gingerbread house. Gingerbread houses are decorations and desserts all rolled into one, and they make a great activity for adults and kids. Baking and building one from scratch can be quite time-consuming, however, and you'll need some serious pastry skills. That's why gingerbread kits have become so popular—all you have to do is assemble.

Lenox Home For The Holidays Cookie Biscuit Jar, Christmas, Gingerbread, Snow, Winter, Storage, Canister

We looked at features like quality, ease of assembly, and taste. Most gingerbread kits are designed with aesthetics in mind (although we did find a clear winner in the taste category). We've compiled our years of data and thorough knowledge on the subject for this year's list, which includes our tested and approved favorites and some newcomers we know you'll enjoy. Wilton makes some of our favorite gingerbread houses year after year, and there are always new themes and designs. This village—with four miniature gingerbread houses—is particularly fun because you can put it together solo or turn it into a group activity.

It was one of the most fun houses to build (and we've tried a lot!). It comes with a ton of cute candy for decorating, including gummy penguins, candy cane sprinkles, and colorful chocolates that perfectly resemble Christmas lights. And the house itself was easy to assemble—the pieces are interlocking like puzzle pieces so it comes together smoothly. The fondant was surprisingly easy to work with and mold into windows for the house.

We thought the pieces were heavy, but that said, the kit provided adhesive frosting that was very efficient. We only had to wait about 10 minutes before moving on to the next side. From handmade pieces to vintage treasures ready to be loved again, Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods.

We think it's perfect for any aspiring pastry chef or artist who wants to get creative with this sweet holiday treat. The spice drops had a nice flavor and the mint candies were standard peppermint, but the sprinkles, balls, and stars were just colored and flavored sugar. The only real qualm we had during testing was that we wished there had been more royal icing. You'll have enough to make sure the front of the house is pretty, but the sides and back didn’t get much more than basic decorating with the icing supplied in the kit.

Whether you're a novice baker or an expert dessert aficionado, these sweet ideas are sure to help you build an epic gingerbread house this Christmas. If you really want to go all out on your gingerbread house this year, and you are determined to build the whole thing from scratch, this bundt pan is the perfect option. It comes with a set of instructions with some handy notes such as the type of cooking spray or fats to use for easy releasing and a sample recipe.

We never worried about the gingerbread sides actually cracking because the gingerbread cookie consistency was closer to that of a soft cookie rather than having a hard exterior. None of the sides needed trimming either so this is a kit we would recommend for kids and adults. It's also the best-tasting gingerbread house kit we tried. Prepare to top your gingerbread house with gumdrops, jelly beans, candy canes and a coating of powdered sugar snow. Whichever Christmas candy you chose, you're guaranteed to have a ton of fun making these sugary creations. So gather your favorite sweet treats and get decorating — then grab a mug of hot cocoa, kick back and marvel at your gingerbread masterpiece.

It can be fun to get your own candy and extra decorations for your house, but if you're looking for simplicity, some kits have everything you need in one package. Some come completely prebuilt so all you have to do is decorate with the included frosting and candies. Some require only basic assembly, and others require shaping and trimming of cookie pieces to get the exact fit.

Home Ginger Bread House

gingerbread house daycare

My husband and I work full-time and it has always been important that I trust my children’s caregivers completely, but also that they love my kids how I do. My children run to their daycare teachers, give them kisses, hugs, and talk about them as if they are family. If you are looking for a daycare center that will truly treat your kids with love and respect, while continuing to develop their minds, skills, and developmental milestones, this is the daycare for you.

Grieving while parenting: 8 tips for juggling heartbreak, loss and raising children

She needed to be placed in a spica cast that was essentially a full body cast. You can imagine the stress we felt for our little girl and the extra attention and care she would need in her classroom. The staff at Ginger Bread House couldn’t have handled her situation any better. Not only did they care for her as we do, but they also took time to help her catch up with developmental milestones like standing again, walking, and running. My wife’s mother has run a licensed In-Home Daycare for over 30 years, so we have very high standards as a family, and we can’t recommend this center enough.

Lil Village People Childcare

Thanks to the support of our fabulous Moms who spread the word (to their closest friends) we have had a wait list for years. We are proud to announce that due to the overwhelming support we have now expanded to our second Milford location. Over the past 6 years we have taken both our kids to GBH and immediately felt like family. All the teachers have gone above and beyond to ensure they have a safe place to learn, develop & grow into their personalities.

We have eight convenient centers

At the Gingerbread House, your children will be nurtured in fun, welcoming and enriching environment that is curriculum based, individually tailored for each child’s specific stages of development. We believe that each child is unique and special, and therefore their development environment needs to be so built to help each child reach their full potential. Gingerbread House Preschool and Nursery has been providing high quality education and care for children age 6 weeks – 6 years for nearly 30 years.

My wife and I were first time parents and needed to find a daycare that we would be comfortable with and alleviate the added worries of being first time parents. Katie was warm, welcoming, informative, and responsive to our needs and questions. The teachers are great and equally responsive to our needs as a family! You can truly tell they enjoy what they do and love being around children. They help and support each other throughout the day so the kids’ needs are always met. We have personal experience with how well everyone supports each other when our daughter was diagnosed with developmental hip dysplasia.

Infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children all follow a schedule suited to their age and needs. Since 1953, Gingerbread House Daycare has been providing an excellent educational, exciting and encouraging environment for children to learn, grow and play. When it comes to selecting the best daycare center that will promote your child's growth and the well-being of your family, the process may appear daunting.

Not only has it been a place where I can trust the staff but, my kids love being there and we consider the staff a part of our family. Highly recommend the Gingerbread to anyone that is in need of trusted loving care. We understand the challenges that toddlers face in a social learning setting, and have experience in helping them adjust to being part of a group and the classroom environment. Toddlers have the opportunity to physically explore their world inside and outside of the classroom.

Valentina's Preschool And Daycare

You can read below about some of our programs that we provide depending on the age of your child. We provide a clean, safe facility in which a child feels secure to explore and comfortably express him/herself. We create a family-oriented atmosphere by intentionally promoting staff-to-parent interactions and staff-to-child relationships. It does take a village to raise children this day in age, and am fortunate that GBH has always been with us.

They also begin more structured activities, such as learning centers and circle time. Your toddler will begin learning concepts of color and size, and will start to build their vocabulary. Teachers work with each child in a series of stimulating activities that incorporate the natural routines of feeding and play. The teacher reinforces the babies’ development without disrupting their daily schedule.

It is our mission to provide an environment that utilizes age appropriate activities to enhance the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development of all children enrolled. Our program is designed to give your child the personal attention and positive reinforcement they need to excel. Our learn through play program provides a creative and stimulating environment that makes learning fun.

Many of them have been with GBH the entire time we have been there and worked with both of our children at different times. The Gingerbread House Daycare and Preschool has been a family run center for the past 30 years. In Early Childhood Education and carefully selects each staff member to ensure the highest standards of care for the children. Each teacher at our center is well trained in child development, children’s First Aid, CPR, Safe Food Handling techniques (and each teacher also undergoes a thorough background check and screening).

He impresses us daily with his speech getting better and the things he knows that we didn’t teach him. It’s always hard to separate and give this precious time with our littles to someone else but knowing how happy he is and seeing his progress definitely helps us to know we made the right choice. KinderCare partners with families in Los Angeles, CA to provide high-quality daycare at an affordable cost. Our approach is designed to inspire a love of learning in your child, creating a safe and supportive environment where they can build Confidence for Life. KinderCare teachers give children the freedom to be themselves, explore, and make friends. We believe that children are our greatest gifts and we take the privilege and responsibility of their care and development with the greatest attention.

I have recommended GBH to all my friends, family, and coworkers, and will continue to do so for many years to come. Our daughter is 4 and has been attending Ginger Bread House for 3 years. Staff also does a great job with daily activities and occasional fun field trips for the older kids. I cannot say enough good things about Gingerbread and the teachers/ staff. My son Lincoln absolutely LOVES going there daily and runs in to give hugs. This shows us that he is getting cared for, having fun and we can tell he is learning lots!!

In addition to holding and cuddling the infants, our teachers are always interacting with them to encourage their mental and physical development. Your child will develop the ability to grasp toys, vocalize sounds, recognize pictures of familiar objects and acquire a variety of other skills.
